About LightSheer Laser Treatment
A laser produces a beam of highly concentrated light. The light emitted by the LightSheer diode laser is well absorbed by the pigment located in hair follicles. During the procedure, the laser pulses for a fraction of a second, long enough to heat up the hair and significantly impede the follicle's ability to re-grow. This process also treats numerous hair follicles simultaneously. Therefore, LightSheer is appropriate for treating even the largest areas of the body both quickly and effectively.

An important part of the procedure is the cooling of the skin. A special contact-cooling hand-piece allows your physician to treat even the most sensitive skin. It protects and cools the upper layer of the skin before, during and after each laser pulse while directing the laser energy to the hair root.

Pre-Treatment Procedure Instructions
You are to refrain from bleaching, tweezing or waxing of the area to be treated for a minimum of 6 weeks prior to treatment. Alternative methods of hair management during this time are shaving, and trimming with manicure scissors. Do not shave treatment are for 3 days. Photographs will be taken before treatment to record hair density. Avoid sun exposure, tanning beds and self-tanning creams that dye the skin for a minimum of 6 weeks prior to treatment, and throughout the course of your treatments. A broad spectrum (UVA/UVB) sunscreen SPF 30 or greater should be applied to the areas to be treated whenever exposed to the sun. We recommend Anthelios 60 or Ombrelle Extreme. If advised by your technician in treating darker skin types, treat your skin with Ultraquin twice daily for 4 weeks prior to treatment. Hydroquinone 4% is a temporary bleaching cream for the skin that prevents possible side effects, such as lightening and darkening of the skin. Usual skin colour returns in 3-6 months. EMLA must be applied to areas being treated, 1/8 inches thick (like icing a cake) and covered with saran wrap 1 to 2 hours before treatment. The technician will remove the saran. EMLA is available at most pharmacies. On the day of your treatment, we recommend you wear loose fitting, comfortable and washable clothing. You will be required to sign a consent form, and photographs will be taken.
